  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp saltFrosting:
    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
    • 2 cups powdered sugar
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract
    • 2 tbsp milk

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  • Cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add molasses, egg, and vanilla; mix well.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients.
  • Spread the dough evenly into the prepared pan.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes until lightly golden and set. Cool completely before frosting.
  • For the frosting, beat butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk together until smooth. Spread over cooled bars, and cut into squares.
