  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup caramelized onions
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella or Gruyere cheese
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp thyme
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 cup ketchup or French onion glaze for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine ground beef, caramelized onions, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  3. Mix until well combined, but do not overmix.
  4. Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it on a lined baking sheet or loaf pan.
  5. Spread ketchup or French onion glaze over the top of the meatloaf.
  6. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  7. Remove from the oven, sprinkle shredded cheese on top, and return to the oven for 5 minutes until cheese melts.
  8. Rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For an extra savory flavor, use Gruyere cheese instead of mozzarella.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.
