  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 medium russet potatoes, peeled and sliced
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté chopped onion until translucent. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
  • Slowly whisk in beef broth and milk, cooking until the sauce thickens. Add garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Top with half of the cooked ground beef and half of the sauce. Repeat layers.
  • Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender.
  • Remove foil, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top, and bake uncovered for an additional 15 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  • Let the dish cool for a few minutes, then garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
